This page covers ai4wa.com only and describes what the site actually does. ai4wa.com is the website of AI4WA, an AI research and engineering team based in Perth, Western Australia. The products we link to, such as Keys and Numbat, are separate websites with their own data use.
In short
- There are no forms, accounts, comments or chat on this site, so it collects nothing you type.
- Our pages set no cookies and load no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
- Our web server keeps a standard log of requests, which includes your IP address.
- Two outside services are involved when you visit: Cloudflare, which carries all traffic to the site, and Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces.
At a glance
What we record and why
Server logs
Each time your browser asks for a page, image or file, our web server writes one line to its log: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the response code and size, the page you came from and your browser's user agent string. We use the log to run the site and look into problems.
Emails you send us
The site shows our address, [email protected], and a button that copies it to your clipboard. Nothing is sent when you press it. If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach, and we use them to reply. Mail for ai4wa.com is received by Cloudflare Email Routing, which forwards it to the team mailbox.
Your theme setting
The light and dark mode button saves your choice in your browser's local storage under the name ai4wa-theme, so the next page opens in the same theme. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
Outside services
Cloudflare
Cloudflare runs the site's DNS and sits between your browser and our server, so it handles every request, including your IP address. It also hides our email address from spam bots by rewriting it on the page and loading a small decoding script from ai4wa.com, and it asks browsers to report network errors to Cloudflare. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers what it does with this.
Google Fonts
Our pages load the Bricolage Grotesque and IBM Plex typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. To fetch them your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and browser details. Google's privacy policy covers that. If you block these requests, the site still works with your device's own fonts.
Links
Links to LinkedIn and to our products open other websites. Nothing from them is loaded until you click.
Where it is stored
The site and its server log are on a server run by the AI4WA team, reached through Cloudflare. Emails are kept in the team mailbox. The theme setting is only in your browser.
How long we keep it
The server log has a size limit of 1 GB. Once it is full, the oldest lines are deleted as new ones are written. At our current traffic a line is deleted after about six weeks, and sooner if traffic grows. The whole log is also deleted every year on 1 January, so no line is kept for more than a year.
We have not set an automatic deletion period for emails, so they are kept until they are deleted by hand. The theme setting stays until you clear this site's data in your browser.
Your choices
- Clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove the theme setting.
- Block fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com if you don't want your browser to contact Google; the pages still work.
- Email [email protected] to ask what we hold about you, or to ask us to delete your emails or the log lines with your IP address. There is no self-service tool for this.
